Completion of the first semester of the Master’s Degree in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation by the specialists of the Public Ministry

15 specialists of the Public Ministry have completed the first semester of the Master’s program in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation, a program carried out within the University College of Dublin, the Center for Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Investigation – School of Computer Science. Participants took exams in Computer Forensics, Network Investigations, Linux, Database.

The 15 participants work within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice (P.O.H.C.C.J), the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) and the Directorate for Investigating of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) – five specialists from each institution.

The reason for choosing this master’s program was that it is specially designed for the law enforcement agencies and that the UCD Center for Criminal Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Investigation represents one of the most important European level institutions, specialized in providing training in the field of computer science, which addresses professionals in the field of law enforcement, not only in Europe, but also in the USA and Asia. The UCD Center for Cybercrime Investigation brings its own contribution to the INTERPOL Working Group on crimes related to high-class technology, provides assistance to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in their training in the field of cybercrime and it also contributes to the activity of the Council of Europe working group, in order to harmonize the computer training of judges and prosecutors.

The financing contract for the project “Fighting criminality and corruption” was signed on 27.11.2018, being the first financing contract signed under the “Justice” Program of the current Norwegian Financial Mechanism. The project budget is 4,250,000 Euros, and the implementation period is 36 months. The project is carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice in partnership with the National Anticorruption Directorate (D.N.A.) and the Directorate for Investigating of Organized Crime and Terrorism (D.I.I.C.O.T.).

The general objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the Public Ministry to fight criminality and corruption, thus contributing to the consolidation of the rule of law and the judicial system as a whole. The project has two components: one regarding the professional training for prosecutors, judicial police officers and specialists and the other one, regarding the procurement of equipment for the prosecutor`s office units, equipment designed to improve the criminal investigation activity.

Project financed by the Kingdom of Norway through the Norwegian Grants. The value of the grant of the project is 4,250,000 Euros. The goal of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the Public Ministry in fighting criminality and corruption.
